what is going on with these exo-planet kids??
kpop videos, especially sm videos, give me claustrophobic feels. their lack of giving any shit is so epic that after five seconds of the same sets, the same halfassed ‘edgy’ fashions, the same corporatised ‘classy lifestyle’ scenarios, the same mediocre choreo elevated by one or two hopelessly talented dancers… a kind of fatigue sets in. this irritating slomo editing shit that won’t even let me focus on the dancing. i’m sort of paying attention because, just because, i really like their singing… these bands are not so much about singing as about being comprehensive entertainment units, i know, especially at sm, but sighhh.
i haven’t seen anything sadder this week than the video teaser for “my lady” where this good-looking young man is flailing around on a watery floor against a backdrop of fake streetlamps and a random parked sedan. like. what the fuck am i supposed to take from this. why is everything so disconnected from everything but the endless canned cycle of kpop promotioneering.
yes yes i’m not the ideal audience for this stuff i know.
but i love pop and i know pop can be fun.
this feels tired, and these boys haven’t even debuted yet.
